About the Author

Dr. John Chuck is a family physician, wellness consultant, and award-winning teacher.  He was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from Lowell High School, UC Berkeley, and the UCLA School of Medicine. Following a family and community medicine residency at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, he embarked on a 31 year career in which he cared for multiple generations of families, taught medical students and residents, and became a regional and national leader in wellness for healthcare professionals.

He served as the Chief of Health Promotion and Chief of Physician Health and Wellness for the Kaiser Sacramento and Roseville Medical Centers and the Chairperson of the Physician Health and Wellness Leaders Group for The Permanente Medical Group, a 10,000 member multispecialty group based in Northern California.

Dr. Chuck was a Clinical Professor at the UC Davis School of Medicine and is currently a Professor of Family Medicine at the California Northstate University College of Medicine.

He is the Founder/CEO of Serotonin Surge Charities, a 501(c)3 public-benefit nonprofit organization that has raised over $5 million for safety net medical care, breast cancer research, and the Thrive scholarship program; a Fellow of the American Leadership Forum; and a Trustee Emeritus of the UC Davis Foundation.

His work has been recognized with the Sidney Garfield Exceptional Contribution Award from The Permanente Medical Group (2004) and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the UC Davis Alumni Association (2014).
